The deadline is drawing near for uninsured consumers to sign up for Affordable Health Care this month. Numerous legislators across the country continue to wrestle with whether to expand their state’s Medicaid provisions to accommodate ACA. However states and others can look at the efficiency of DC-based, Trusted Health Plan, a Medicaid Managed Care Organization that has made significant impacts in the marketplace with a business model that is providing cost savings and efficiency. “Our goal is simple… reduce healthcare cost, improve quality and expand access to care. We are positively impacting the lives of our members,” says Thomas Duncan, Trusted Health Plan; CEO.
Over the last two years, Trusted Health Plan has built significant momentum not just with their core competencies but industry-wide best practices to implement the comprehensive delivery system that closely monitors the health behaviors of its members through disease and case management and population health screening programs. Just through processing member medical encounters, Trusted is able to monitor their members’ health experiences, makes recommendations for preventative health strategies and saves money on possible ER visits and increases visits to their Health and Wellness Outreach Center on DC’s South Eastside. Trusted is coordinating DC healthcare for its 30,000 members in a cost-efficient manner. In 2014, when they opened their Health and Wellness Outreach Center, the first of its kind in the country, naysayers doubted that members would come. Last year, they saw 750 members each month, a 20 percent increase from their first year of operation. Trusted Health Plan is helping the District of Columbia’s Medicaid program to be more efficient, cost-conscious and changing the behaviors of their members one at a time.
