The Bowen Homes community in Atlanta is getting a much-needed revival, thanks to a partnership between Peach State Health Plan, the Centene Foundation, and city leaders. A groundbreaking ceremony on March 5 marked the start of a project that will bring affordable housing, health services, and community resources to the area.
Peach State Health Plan and Centene Foundation have teamed up with McCormack Baron Salazar (MBS) to turn the historic site into a thriving neighborhood. Their investment will help speed up development, fund planning, and ensure residents have access to housing that supports their well-being.
More Than Just Housing
The plan for Bowen Homes goes beyond building places to live. It’s about creating a community where families can grow and thrive. Once complete, the development will include over 750 residential units and plenty of open spaces. Walking trails, outdoor plazas, and seating areas will make it easy for residents to enjoy the outdoors.
Clyde A. White, President of Peach State Health Plan, emphasized that safe and affordable housing is a key factor in overall well-being. “We’re not just building homes. We’re creating opportunities for families to thrive in an environment that promotes health and resilience,” he said.
The project will also bring vital health and social services to residents. This includes education on nutrition, behavioral health programs, and maternal care support.
A Community-Driven Approach
One of the biggest goals of this initiative is to reduce healthcare barriers and improve long-term health for residents. Centene Foundation President Keith Williamson highlighted the importance of addressing healthcare needs alongside housing.
“By bringing together affordable housing, nutrition education, and health resources, we’re working to close long-standing health gaps,” Williamson said.
The project is part of a larger effort by the Centene Foundation to invest in communities where support is needed the most. This is the first state-level initiative under its partnership with MBS, and Atlanta is just the beginning.
What’s Next?
As construction moves forward, the focus will remain on community input. Residents will have a say in how the project takes shape, ensuring the new Bowen Homes meets their needs.
The redevelopment is a major step in addressing both housing and healthcare challenges in Atlanta. With Peach State Health Plan, Centene Foundation, and city leaders backing the effort, this project is set to bring real change to the community.
