In Tough Economic Times, Seventy Members of Suburban Club Give Back to Their Community
ST. CHARLES, IL–(Marketwire – October 15, 2010) – At a time when budgets are being cut, costs scrutinized and improvements deferred, members of the St. Charles Country Club recently banded together to bring accuracy improving technology to their local community women’s health center.
In a golf and tennis outing this summer, St. Charles Country Club members Christine Kluck, Sue Dugan, Sara Woods and Mary Lisa Vale organized 70+ members to help buy a Magnification Localization Paddle Kit for the Delnor Center for Breast Health. The Magnification Localization Paddle is a device which provides greater visual accuracy, clarity and detail during localization of suspicious lesions or calcifications in the breast. As a result, patients may have less tissue removed, heal quicker and have improved accuracy for a more positive outcome, both physically and mentally.
According to Teri Koehn, Manager of the Women’s Imaging at the Delnor Center for Breast Health, “It is both humbling and refreshing to have members of the community participate in the purchase of equipment for us and our patients. The efforts of the women at the St. Charles Country Club will have a big impact on the high level of care we provide to our patients, particularly at a time when costs are rising and spending heavily scrutinized.”
The Delnor Center for Breast Health located in Geneva, Illinois, promotes breast wellness by providing excellence in screening and diagnostic services for the Fox Valley community. The Center, which specializes in women’s needs, performs five-to-six breast localizations each week. The new Magnification Localization Paddle Kit, already in operation, is being used by radiologists and technicians for improved accuracy.
Additionally, through the highly successful efforts of the St. Charles Country Club’s fund raising initiative, the Center was able to purchase 150 issues of the Breast Cancer Treatment Handbook, by Judy C. Kneece, RN, OCN which it will distribute to breast cancer patients. The handbook provides comprehensive insights on the technical and medical aspects of treatments and the emotional challenges faced by women undergoing breast cancer treatment.
Organizer Christine Kluck says, “Working with co-members of the St. Charles Country Club, its staff and the Delnor Center for Breast Health has been a most rewarding and personally satisfying experience. The women of the Club were eager to join the effort to assure all the women in our Fox Valley community have local access to advanced imaging technology that can help them avoid painful biopsies, uncomfortable recoveries and the emotional stress of waiting for results.”
